Rolling Up Our Sleeves for a Cause: A Day of Impact with Cradles to Crayons

/// By Evan Macedo

Last month, we traded our laptops in for a bit of sweat, plastic bins, and a healthy dose of competitive spirit as we spent the day at the Cradles to Crayons Giving Factory in Newton—a local nonprofit that provides essential items to children living in low-income and homeless situations across Greater Boston.

From the moment we stepped onto the sorting floor, the energy was contagious. Laughter echoed alongside the sound of zippers, squeaky sneakers on concrete, and the occasional: “Let’s pick up the pace if we want to be number one!” or “Looks like we’ve got a mismatched outfit in the wrong bin again, good thing for our quality control team!”

Working side by side with our professional partners and friends, we sorted clothing, conducted quality checks, and packed items for future volunteers to assemble into KidPacks carefully curated packages that will soon be in the hands of children who need them most.

“Impact isn’t always made in boardrooms or brainstorms. Sometimes, it’s found in the quiet act of folding a hoodie or matching a pair of socks, knowing it might be the warmest thing a child receives all year.” – Nehal Patel, Chief Customer Officer

We were proud to share the day with incredible partners who brought not only their hands, but also their hearts, to the work:

  • LGA, LLP: Jonalyn Sullivan, Arber Cufe, Caroline O’Connor
  • Leader Bank: Dorothy Zahir
  • Gray, Gray & Gray: Sofia Sowden, Pamela Cedrone
  • Appel Insurance Advisors: David Appel
  • Independent Advisor: Nehal Patel
  • Sapers & Wallack: Aviva Sapers, Evan Macedo, Pat Casserly, Joe Campedelli

“Seeing our work directly impact kids in our community was incredibly moving.”– Jonalyn Sullivan, Tax Partner at LGA

This day wasn’t just about giving back—it was a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together. To further support the effort, Sapers & Wallack also made a $75 charitable donation to Cradles to Crayons on behalf of each attendee, multiplying our collective impact.

“Volunteering with such an incredible group was an absolute joy, and Cradles to Crayons plays a vital role in supporting families in need.” – Dorothy Zahir, Head of Retail Banking at Leader Bank

We encourage others to get involved—whether through in-kind donations, financial support, or by volunteering your time. You can learn more about Cradles to Crayons and their ongoing needs here.

At Sapers & Wallack, community engagement isn’t just part of our mission—it’s part of our identity. This day with Cradles to Crayons reminded us that when we roll up our sleeves together, small actions can lead to a big, lasting difference.
